Sandpit Cover on Roller
Each sandpit is unique. Clever cover design for maximum effectiveness and ease of use is imperative. Our covers are lightweight and durable. However, especially on larger sandpits, it is just not practical to fold and relocate the cover.
We can often design our sandpit covers so that they can hang on an adjacent fence or wall. Where this is not possible, perhaps a roller could be the answer!
Despite apparently being a relatively simple concept, there is much more to sandpit cover design than you may think. A sandpit cover should be expertly designed to fit perfectly to the shape of the sandpit and around all obstructions. The fittings and attachments need to be child-safe, non-clog and secure. Further, the location and choice of fittings needs to suit the exact application.
Just Covers treat each sandpit as a unique structure and use a combination of design, manufacturing and attachment techniques to obtain the best possible result. Where possible, fence or wall storage will also be incorporated into the sandpit cover design. However, if a wall is not suitably positioned, a roller may be the best option.
Bench Seat Roller
A sandpit cover roller solves the inherent difficulties associated with cover deployment, retraction and storage, and is recommended for large sandpits. The roller allows a person to single-handedly remove or refit the cover, without effort. To remove, simply wind the hand wheel. To refit, pull the cover out over the sandpit to unspool it from the roller, then secure the elastics to stretch the cover neatly across the sandpit.
Household, pool-cover-style rollers are not suitable for playground use — they are flimsy and will be bent and broken within a few weeks, as children inevitably climb on them. We have seen situations where a newly installed roller has become completely useless in just a few weeks!
Where space and sandpit configuration permits, our Bench Seat Roller stands alone as the best option. This roller doubles as a bench seat, so the roller mechanism is protected from the rigours of playground use. The Bench Seat Roller also provides shade for the rolled-up cover, protecting it from harmful UV and prolonging its life.
Robust Open Sandpit Cover Roller
Where space, size or sandpit configuration do not allow the use of a bench seat roller, we are pleased to offer a robust version of a swimming-pool-style open roller. This roller sports a sturdy 125mm x 2mm anodised aluminium shaft, which (within reason) will withstand the abuse of the playground environment.
